NEW YORK — Mayor de Blasio says while the city has seen cooperation from every community in coronavirus cluster zones, it’s been “particularly high” in central Queens — and as a result the state says it may lift its restrictions later this week.

In his weekly “Mondays with the Mayor” interview on Inside City Hall, de Blasio told anchor Errol Louis that people in central Queens have been getting tested and adjusting their behavior, including by wearing face coverings and social distancing more often.

“It reminds me of what we experienced in other situations — Sunset Park, Soundview — where we really pushed people to tighten up on following the rules and going out and getting tested, and people did it and it turned around the situation quickly,” the mayor said Monday evening. “We’re seeing good results in central Queens; it’s going to take a little more work in the Rockaways, a little more work in Brooklyn.”

It’s not yet confirmed when restrictions will be lifted, and Gov. Andrew Cuomo would make the final call, but de Blasio said areas outside central Queens may need another week or two.
