First-time parent Sade James said she never expected welcoming her first child, Syre Jeremiah Clausell, into the world not just in her family’s living room, but surrounded by NYPD officers.

“I said I can’t make it to the car, like I literally feel his head coming down now,” said James, who described having contractions all throughout Wednesday morning.

“Probably within like within 40 seconds, police were at my door before ems and they came and started the process,” said James.

In a video from a relative, which was obtained by NY1, James is holding baby Syre in the middle of the living room on sofa cushions.

She said the delivery took only a few minutes.

“It was overwhelming because I didn’t know my body would have reacted so it, it was just like when it happened it just flowed naturally. The officers were very supportive,” James said.

For new father, Justin Clausell, he admits this all started off a bit nerve-wracking.

“I was in complete shock. It was kind of scary in the moment I would say because I never delivered a baby. No one in the room delivered a baby,” Clausell said.

The parents said the three NYPD officers, who were from the 103rd Precinct, made everyone in the room, especially the new mother, feel at ease.

Each officer had received advanced emergency medical training.

“It was a chaotic scene. We calmed the family down, calmed the mom. It happened quickly. We coached her, she pushed, and it came out. Overall it went well,” officer Justin Rodriguez said.

The officers checked in on the family at the hospital the following day — each saying they’re now baby Syre’s new God parents.

“It was a very interesting experience. And I’m very thankful that I had the training that I did. It made me think about my family as well. And it made me happy that I was able to help when mom and baby were in,” officer Kevin Kelland said.

James said she and her family are eternally grateful the officers were there.

“I categorize them as superheroes because, you know, in our community, we always see cops as bad [as] them doing something or we don’t like them but for me they were my superheroes that day,” said James.

Looking back on it all, she said she wouldn’t have changed a thing. The fact that she gave birth in her late-grandmother’s home makes it extra special.

“His due date was on her birthday, which was next Tuesday and the fact that, you know, she’s no longer here and like, you know, I gave birth in her house, means that much more to me,” said James.
