NEW YORK - Fifteen years ago, "Morimoto" opened in Chelsea, bringing contemporary Japanese cuisine into the spotlight here in the city.

Now, the restaurant announced it's shutting its doors this spring.

The restaurant group that runs "Morimoto" says the 10th Avenue location will close at the end of its lease in May.

The flagship is still open in Philadelphia.

The restaurant is led by Chef Masaharu Morimoto, a world-class Japanese culinary master best known for his appearances on the show "Iron Chef."

Chef Morimoto will still maintain a presence in the city.

Momosan Ramen & Sake, his well-received line of ramen eateries, has a location in Midtown and another is set to open in Park Slope.
