Farah Louis won the special election Tuesday to fill the City Council seat vacated by Jumaane Williams when he was elected Public Advocate.

Louis, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Budget Director for Williams before he vacated the seat, beat seven other candidates. She will represent the 45th Council District, which covers neighborhoods in central Brooklyn including Flatbush, East Flatbush, Flatbush, Midwood, and Canarsie.

As of 10:01 p.m. Tuesday, with 99 percent of precincts reporting, Louis had 41.8 percent of the vote (3,861 ballots) compared to Monique Chandler-Waterman's 30 percent (2,790 votes). Chandler-Waterman, who was the community outreach director in Williams's City Council office, was the only candidate Williams had endorsed. Jovia Radix, who was previously the Brooklyn regional director for the governor's office, is third with 9.1 percent of the vote — 849 ballots.

Louis, who had the support of the Brooklyn Democratic Party Chair Frank Seddio and Borough President Eric Adams, will hold the seat only until the end of the year. To serve the remainder of Williams's term, which runs through 2021, she will have to win the primary June 25, and the general election in November.

About 9,200 votes were cast in the special election.
