The NYPD is investigating after police fatally shot a man in Brooklyn overnight who they said had charged at them with a knife.

Police said officers responded to reports of a man with a gun and knife in Crown Heights overnight. They found him at around 4 a.m. Monday with one hand holding a knife and the other in his pocket.

The NYPD said officers initially followed the man into a subway station and fired their Tasers. The officers then followed him back onto the street, where they said he charged at them. That's when they shot him.

The NYPD said a total of four officers were on the scene; two fired their Tasers and two used their firearms. One officer fired seven shots, and the other fired three, according to police.

A knife was recovered by police. Police said they didn't recover a firearm.

The man was taken to the hospital in critical condition, where he died. None of the officers were hurt.
