According to the poll, 43% of respondents said they approved of Biden’s handling of the job, while 54% disapprove. It is the highest number for the president since August of last year, when his approval reached 44% following the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.

Two months ago, Gallup found Biden’s approval mark to be at 37%, the lowest rating of his presidency, before growing 4-percentage points between May and June to reach 43%.

The poll was conducted between June 1 and June 22, which Gallup noted coincided with the passage of a bill to suspend the nation’s debt ceiling. Biden signed the deal on June 3 after intense negotiations with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif.

The poll notes independents were most responsible for Biden’s job rating increase, with 41% approving of his handling of the role in June, up from 33% in May. The percentage of Democrats who approved came in at 82% while Republicans in the poll who approved came in at 6%.

Biden’s rating is similar to that of his predecessor, former President Donald Trump, around the same time in his presidency when he was also seeking another term in the White House. In June 2019, Gallup recorded Trump’s approval rating at 41%.

A separate poll by NBC News found 49% of registered voters in the survey have a negative view of Vice President Kamala Harris while 32% have a positive view, resulting in a net negative of rating of -17.

The new numbers come as Biden is ramping up campaign efforts for his reelection bid. He is attending campaign receptions with donors in Maryland on Tuesday after attending multiple campaign events in California last week.

His administration launched a second wave of its ‘Investing in America’ tour on Monday in which top officials are traveling the country to promote what his teams considers his legislative accomplishments.

The Gallup poll surveyed 1,013 adults in the U.S.
