A planned doctors strike at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West has been called off after their union announced late Monday night that it had reached a tentative contract agreement with the hospitals.

The deal includes 7% salary increases retroactive to March, a 6% increase next year, and a 5% guaranteed bump in 2025.

The doctors will also get a bonus of $2,000, Juneteenth as a paid holiday, and six weeks of protected ACGME leave during residency.

Represented by the Committee of Interns and Residents, about 500 doctors had planned to go on a five-day strike if negotiations for a new contract failed.

The deal prevents what would have been the second physicians strike in the city within a month.

Resident physicians at Elmhurst Hospital ended their three-day strike on May 24, when union officials said they had reached a DEAL? with the hospital.

“This fight was about demanding that Mount Sinai treat us equitably,” Dr. Aliza Grossberg said. “The Elmhurst residents who went on strike two weeks ago were fighting for the same things that we are -– parity across Mount Sinai residency programs. There’s no reason why doctors doing the same job should be paid differently.”
