A 29-year-old man was fatally shot by NYPD officers during an incident early Sunday in Washington Heights, officials said.

According to police, at approximately 3 a.m. Sunday, members from the 34 Precinct Neighborhood Safety Team observed two males fighting in a crowd on Nagle Avenue, one of which was armed. After repeated warnings to drop his gun, four officers discharged their weapons. The man was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police later identified the victim as Capellan, who had multiple prior arrests, according to authorities.

Police did not say whether the suspect had fired at the officers.

Another male had a graze wound before NYPD arrived. Officers were sent to the hospital to be treated for tinnitus, police said.

A gun was recovered at the scene, police say.
