Two pedestrians died and several others were injured after two vehicles collided early Wednesday morning in the Inwood section of Manhattan, police say.

The vehicles crashed into one another at West 207th Street and Sherman Avenue around 4 a.m., according to authorities.

Police believe one vehicle, traveling in the northbound lane on Sherman Avenue, swerved into the southbound lane, causing the collision.

Two pedestrians, ages 31 and 32, were struck and killed, officials say. One was taken to New York-Presbyterian Allen and the other to Harlem Hospital. Both were pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Police say a total of five people, including the drivers, were inside the two cars at the time of the incident. All five suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Authorities say the cause of the collision remains under investigation.
