A yellow school bus carrying dozens of privately contracted bus drivers overturned near Exit 1 on the Hutchinson River Parkway in the Bronx early Thursday morning, according to the NYPD.

Police say no children were aboard the bus when it overturned on the northbound exit ramp onto Bruckner Boulevard shortly before 6 a.m.

All 40 people aboard the bus, including the driver, sustained minor injuries and were transported to local hospitals, including Jacobi Medical Center, Einstein Hospital and St. Barnabas Hospital, authorities say.

Police say the driver was traveling along the Hutchinson Parkway when he missed his exit, made a sharp turn in an attempt to make it, causing the bus to overturn.

The bus — operated by Consolidated Bus Transit, a private contractor hired by the city’s Department of Education — was shuttling 39 of its employees from their Brooklyn Bus Depot to their Bronx Bus Depot, the company said in a statement.

Morning and afternoon bussing to and from the city’s Summer Rising program will be affected by the incident, the DOE said.

“The incident involved employees of one of the DOE's contracted busing providers — no students were on the bus,” the DOE said in a statement. “Families should expect that bus routes this morning and afternoon will be impacted. Schools will be reaching out to families whose bus routes are impacted by this incident.”

The DOE is advising families with children in the summer program who are experiencing bussing delays to contact the transportation coordinator at their Summer Rising site or the Office of Pupil Transportation call center at 718-392-8855.

Mayor Eric Adams also released a statement Thursday morning, clarifying the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“This morning, a school bus carrying only bus drivers for the city’s summer programming overturned while exiting the Hutchinson River Parkway. The safety of every member of our community is our top priority and thankfully, at this time, no major injuries have been sustained on board. Additionally, no students were on the bus,” Adams said.

Both Consolidated Bus Transit and the NYPD are currently investigating what happened.
