Senator Chuck Schumer on Monday said passing a bipartisan infrastructure bill and reconciliation bill is crucial to combat the devastating climate change effects like we saw with Hurricane Ida.

"While the floodwater may now have dried up — New Yorkers' patience, all of our patience in dealing with the issue — is dried up as well. And that's why Congress has to act, and act fast,” Schumer said.

As part of the bills, Schumer says at least $10 billion would be allocated to the MTA for resiliency and critical upgrades needed to combat the weather and the challenges it poses.

If both bills pass, Schumer says New York City could see the money as early as next year.
