Andrew Yang has made an enemy of an animal-rights group that was central in derailing Christine Quinn’s bid for mayor eight years ago.

On Monday, the founders of NYCLASS, or New Yorkers for Clean, Livable, and Safe Streets, launched a campaign hoping to sink Yang’s candidacy.

“What do we actually know about Andrew Yang?” a narrator says in a TV ad via the new “New York Deserves Better” campaign. “He’s a prep school millionaire whose business career mostly failed.”

What You Need To Know

  • Eight years ago, an animal rights group pushed an effective campaign against Christine Quinn

  • Now, they're after Yang with a "New York Deserves Better" campaign, including a TV ad

  • Yang says NYCLASS is tied to Mayor de Blasio, says de Blasio is backing Eric Adams
  • Adams calls attack by Yang "absurd"

Yang responded at an unrelated Bronx event with a reference to NYCLASS helping boost Mayor Bill de Blasio to victory in 2013.

“I understand that this is a group that’s very, very tightly aligned with Mayor de Blasio,” Yang said. “And this is a sign of why we need to turn the page from politics as usual.”

Yang, a former candidate for president, was once the clear frontrunner in the race for mayor, but he’s trailing Eric Adams in an exclusive Spectrum News NY1/Ipsos poll.

Yang linked de Blasio to Adams.

“We all know he’s making calls for Eric Adams right now,” Yang alleged to NY1.

Adams’ team pushed back on the assertion that de Blasio and Adams are united behind the NYCLASS founders’ independent spending against Yang.

“Absurd and sad. Apparently, there are plenty of other people who don’t think Andrew Yang should be mayor,” said campaign spokesman Evan Thies.

Adams has said he doesn’t want de Blasio’s endorsement, whereas Yang was the sole candidate at last week’s debate to say he would take it.

On “Inside City Hall” on Monday night, the mayor ducked questions about whether he was supporting Adams and said he had nothing to do with NYCLASS attacks on Yang.
