Police say a male motorcyclist is dead, and no arrests have been made, following a crash into an outdoor dining structure in Astoria, Queens.

Surveillance video shows tense moments as customers who were inside Rosatoro restaurant at the corner of 35th Street and Ditmars Boulevard saw the outdoor dining set up crash towards them.

Police say the crash took place Thursday evening at around 7:45 p.m., when a 60-year-old woman, who authorities say appeared to be driving at a high rate of speed, struck and killed 37-year-old motorcyclist Xin Lin Long of Elmhurst, before she crashed into an outdoor dining structure along 35th Street, where no was seated.

Kevin Sales, the operating manager for Rosatoro, said due to the strong chance of rain Thursday, he told his staff to only seat customers indoors. It’s a decision that likely saved lives.

“I don’t know what got into our heads not to sit anybody outside yesterday,” Sales said, “so thank God we didn’t sit anybody outside.”

Sales said his restaurant spent more than $15,000 to build the outdoor structure, which was set up in the street and completed last week.

With New York City set to lift all curfews on indoor and outdoor dining by May 31, some fear the extended hours for alcohol sales could make it even more dangerous to dine outside.

Two women who observed the damage told NY1 while they are OK with dining on the sidewalk, you won’t find them dining in an outdoor structure in the roadway.

“This is going to be a big problem,” said Marcela Skarkon of Astoria, “because some of these people, they have a drink when they go out. Some of the people are not really responsible.”

“People speed down the street, and it’s worrisome,” said Elle Clarke, who lives across the street from the crash site. “I flinched last week when I hear them flying down the street,”

While police say the driver and another woman, who was a customer, sustained injuries that were not life-threatening, the death of the 37-year old motorcyclist is being mourned by his downstairs neighbor, Sonam Yangchen, who said she did not know him.

“I feel very bad and very upset,” Yangchen said.
