Bodies of hundreds of city residents who died from COVID-19 are reportedly being stored in freezer trucks on the Brooklyn Waterfront.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the bodies are of people whose families either can't be located, or can't afford the cost of a proper burial.

About 650 bodies are being stored in the trucks at a disaster morgue set up in April on the 39th Street Pier in Sunset Park.

In a statement, Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Barbara Sampson said they do not know if these people died from COVID-19, but that they did die at the height of the pandemic.

“Supporting families and helping facilitate respectful final arrangements for individuals who passed at the height of the pandemic reflects the core mission of the Office of Chief Medical Examiner,” Sampson said.
