The NYPD intercepted a party boat known as the Liberty Belle at Pier 36 Saturday night after revelers packed onto the boat, violating social distancing provisions set in place by both Mayor Bill de Blasio and Governor Andrew Cuomo.

The NYPD says both the owners of the boat and the captain were arrested for the illegal party, which violated social distancing guidelines and operated an unlicensed bar and bottle club.

The Resident Association of the Two Bridges Waterfront Tower posted a photo of the packed boat to its Twitter account, alerting elected officials to the party.

Shortly thereafter, Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer and other elected officials weighed in on the Twitter thread.

"I am contacting city and state agencies," Brewer wrote back.

In a separate tweet, Brewer confirmed that she had alerted both de Blasio and Cuomo about the situation, and that they, in turn, had alerted the sheriff who handles health and civil violations.

Despite New York’s success in beating back the coronavirus in recent weeks, the city has seen a troubling trend with partygoers and some business owners shunning these rules, particularly in Queens, where 12 bars were recently stripped of their liquor licenses after "egregious violations."
