NEW YORK - The New York City Police Department on Wednesday released crime statistics for the first week of June when major looting occurred.

The report shows a 402 percent increase in burglaries in the city compared to the same time last year.

Burglary arrests increased by 705 percent.

There were also 13 murders, compared to five during the same week in 2019.

Car theft was up 66 percent.

But there was a 40 percent overall decrease in arrests, likely mostly due to people remaining home during the pandemic.
