Domino Park is a finalist in Urban Land Institute's 2020 Urban Space Award, a competition that recognizes outstanding public open spaces.

The park was one of eight finalists nominated in the United States and Canada announced Thursday.

In the late 19th century, Domino Park was the space that used to be part of the Domino Sugar Refinery. Since the park opened in 2018, it has seen more than two million visitors.

The announcement came via the park’s Instagram account, displaying pictures of the beloved Brooklyn public sage before the coronavirus pandemic hit New York City.

As of last weekend, the park introduced circles on the grass to help park goers adhere to social distancing.

The contest will announce the winner of the award in October.
