A massive water main break in Brooklyn left streets flooded and damaged Sunday morning.

The Department of Environmental Protection says the water has been shut off and the remaining water will drain into catch basins.

This happened on 5th Avenue near 44th Street in Sunset Park around 4:30 this morning.

Some of the sidewalk also caved in, with pieces scattered around the street.

"I mean it's a lot of stinkin’ water man, so I'm not surprised that it has this kind of effect,” said one local who watched as the water gushed into the street. “I mean we get flooding up here on a really heavy downpour, so the fact that you have this amount of water coming up all at once, I'm not surprised that we're getting flooding, just because there's, we already generally have issues with that kind of stuff anyways."

Some nearby residents say they do not have water in their homes, and others say their water is brown.

It's not clear what caused the break at this time.
