A man is seriously hurt following a police-involved shooting in Brooklyn Tuesday night.

Police say two plainclothes officers from an anti-crime unit were patrolling the Gowanus Houses on Baltic and Hoyt Streets in Boerum Hill. Authorites say they were driving in an unmarked police car when they encountered a man shooting at someone.

Investigators say the two officers identified themselves as police, and told the man multiple times to drop his weapon.

At that time, both officers fired numerous rounds at the male who was struck several times, according to the NYPD. EMS took him to Brookdale Hospital, where he is listed in critical condition.

The officers were not hurt, but were taken to a separate hospital for evaluation.

Investigators say the suspect has an extensive criminal history, and had just been released from prison after serving five years for a robbery.

Police say they did recover a gun on the scene.
