A flash flood watch remains in effect until 8 a.m. Tuesday morning for all five boroughs after a storm brought heavy rain, lighting and winds in excess of 40 mph.

Radar estimates show that parts of the city soaked up as much as 2.5 inches of rain within the matter of a few hours.

Mayor de Blasio says the city is responding to multiple roadways experiencing flooding, including the LIE, BQE, Clearview Expressway, as well as local streets in Jamaica Heights and Crown Heights.

Commuters should continue to watch out for street and subway flooding. New Yorkers are advised to never drive through flooded areas.

While the 2, 3, 4, and 5 trains were already experiencing significant delays and overcrowding due to switch problems at Franklin Avenue, and a conductor being assaulted at the Borough Hall station, the heavy rain led to flooding in some subway stations.

The MTA has advised New Yorkers to avoid taking the lettered lines.

Some commuters also reported seeing overcrowding at the Times Square station, although it’s not clear if that is directly related to the problems on the numbered lines.

Airports are also reckoning with the powerful storm blowing through the northeastern region of the country. As a result, LaGuardia, JFK and the Newark Airports are all experiencing ground delays.

Estimated average delay times (as of the time of this writting):

LGA: 2 hours, 26 minutes

JFK: 4 hrs, 7 minutes

Newark: 3  hours, 47 minutes
