A police officer who allegedly refused to enter the Brooklyn apartment where a fatal ax attack happened resigned last week, and sources tell us the other officer could head back to work.

The NYPD said Thursday that Officer Sean Doohan quit shortly after he and his partner were suspended for failing to act during the incident.

Sources told NY1 in the evening that the other officer could be put back on full duty and patrol as early as this week. She could still face departmental charges in the future for not responding to the axe murder scene, according to sources.

Police said Angela Valle and Savannah Rivera were with Valle's young child when a man with an ax attacked them inside an apartment at the Buswick Houses last month. Rivera was killed and Valle was left critically injured. Valle's boyfriend faces multiple charges in the attack, including murder and attempted murder.

Police said the young girl, who was unharmed, was left alone for nearly an hour.

When an EMS lieutenant asked Doohan and his partner for an escort to the scene, they allegedly ignored the request.
