NATIONWIDE — NBCUniversal continues to face internal shake-ups as Ron Meyer, the company's former Vice Chairman, left after disclosing he reached a private settlement with a woman who allegedly attempted to extort him after an extramarital affair.

NBCUniversal CEO Jeff Shell announced the news in a statement to employees Tuesday.

“I am writing to share some unfortunate news. Late last week Ron Meyer informed NBCUniversal that he had acted in a manner which we believe is not consistent with our company policies or values,” the statement read.

“Based on Ron’s disclosure of these actions, we have mutually concluded that Ron should leave the company, effective immediately,” Shell’s statement continued.

“It is with a heavy heart that I announce my departure from NBCUniversal,” Meyer said in a statement of his own, explaining the reasons for his exit.

“I recently disclosed to my family and the company that I made a settlement, under threat, with a woman outside the company who had made false accusations against me,” the 75-year-old continued.

The former executive claimed that while the allegations the woman made were false, he decided to come forward after other people learned of the payment and attempted to extort him.

Meyer concluded his statement with an apology to family and former colleagues: “I’ve spent 25 years helping to grow and support an incredible company in a job I love. It is the people at this company that I will miss the most. I regret what has happened and I am sorry for all the people in my life I may have let down, especially and most importantly, my family.”

Prior to his tenure at NBC, Meyer was one of the five agents who famously left the William Morris Agency in 1975 to form the Creative Artists Agency, now one of the largest and most powerful talent agencies in the world.

Meyer’s ousting comes several months after a company-wide restructuring in May, which saw NBC News Chairman Andy Lack step down earlier than previously planned. Lack was replaced by Telemundo’s Cesar Conde, who was put in charge of NBC News, CNBC, and MSNBC.

Lack faced criticism after the publication of Ronan Farrow’s 2019 book “Catch And Kill,” where Farrow alleged NBC executives, including Lack, attempted to put a stop to his reporting. NBC has continually denied the allegations.

In August, chairman of NBC Entertainment Paul Telegdy left the network after allegations surfaced that he fostered a toxic workplace environment.
