A Staten Island health expo encouraged people of all ages to learn more about their bodies and how to kick bad habits.

The Staten Island Economic Development Corporation hosted its 8th annual Health and Wellness Expo Wednesday at the Hilton Garden Inn.

Local hospitals and organizations offered blood pressure, cholesterol and hearing screenings.

Health professionals also held seminars on diet, substance abuse and anti-bullying.

One participant found out about the event through his doctor, who recommended the expo.

"It's great. Normally, I've priced other doctors for this service and it would have been about 90 dollars to 100 dollars for this service where here it's free," said Patient Anthony Ambio.

"They come to an event like this. They have screenings, they get their results. And it's also a reminder to them that they have to focus on themselves. They can't just wait. They can't wait until they have symptoms of an illness before they get help," said Donna Proske of Staten Island University Hospital.

The expo also welcomed students who learned how to administer CPR.
