Police are searching for a woman they say splashed an “unknown chemical substance” on another woman’s face during a dispute inside a Brooklyn subway station on Friday, leaving her with burns that required hospitalization.

The 21-year-old victim was standing on a southbound platform at the Winthrop Street station in Prospect Lefferts Gardens around 1:10 a.m. when a woman she didn’t know started arguing with her, followed her up the stairs and splashed a liquid on her face, the NYPD said.

The woman fled the station after she threw the substance, police said.

The victim was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi in critical but stable condition, with burns on the left side of her face, the NYPD said.

Police are now searching for the suspect, an approximately 20- to 30-year-old woman they say was last seen wearing a black jacket with brown fur on the hood, black pants with white drawings on the legs and black boots.

In a statement, MTA Spokesperson Kayla Shults said, "No subway rider should be victimized while just trying to get to work. While the NYPD investigation is in early stages, we're assisting in every way possible. This perpetrator needs to face justice and, if appropriate, get serious mental health treatment."

The NYPD is urging anyone with information about the incident to call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS.
