NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill confirmed to NY1 on Saturday that a second arrest has been made in connection with the death of an NYPD detective on Tuesday.

The NYPD says 25-year-old Jagger Freeman has been charged with murder, two counts of first-degree robbery, second-degree robbery, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

Detective Brian Simonsen was shot and killed by friendly fire Tuesday night while investigating a robbery at a T-Mobile store in Richmond Hill.

Christopher Ransom has already been charged with two counts of second-degree murder, along with manslaughter, assault and robbery. He allegedly pointed what officials later discovered was a fake gun at officers responding to the scene, causing several officers to fire more than 40 rounds.

Local law enforcement members and others are paying their respects to Simonsen with a makeshift memorial outside the 102nd Precinct, where he worked.

For those with loved ones in law enforcement, Simonsen's death is a stark reminder of the danger they face daily.

"He has a family, we have to understand. When these people work on the street, I got family, they're officers too. And every day I go out, I think about my nephew, my niece, that they're doing their job," said one person at the makeshift memorial.

Police say Ransom's actions led to Simonsen and his partner, Sergeant Matt Gorman, being shot in police crossfire. Gorman was shot in the leg and is recovering at home.
