Queens residents are mourning the death of a colorful fixture in the LGBTQ community as police continue their investigation.

Ms. Colombia was born Oswaldo Gomez and was known for her larger than life personality and her ability to put a smile on people's faces.

There are lots of questions surrounding her death.

She was found in the waters off Jacob Riis Park early Wednesday morning.

Police do not suspect foul play.

The Medical Examiner is working to determine how she died.

Ms. Colombia often spoke about her love for New York and how she moved to the city from Colombia in the 1970's so she could be free.

She also spoke openly about being diagnosed with HIV in 1998.

"In some neighborhoods, that might appear to be odd, to see a man with a beard and colorful dress with a parrot on her shoulder and a colorful dog in his arms riding a bicycle down the middle of the avenue but not here in Jackson Heights. Ms Colombia was accepted here in this community," said City Councilman Daniel Dromm.

Gomez's family does not have many answers as to what happened.
