The man accused of using a truck to kill eight people on the West Side Highway bike path in October 2017 was found guilty on all charges Thursday, including murder, attempted murder and providing support to a terrorist organization.

Jurors convicted Sayfullo Saipov, 34, of Paterson, New Jersey, on the second day of deliberations after a two and a half week trial.

Saipov faces the death penalty in connection with the attack. The jury is due back on Feb. 6 for the penalty phase.

This the first federal death penalty trial being heard under President Joe Biden, who previously pledged to eliminate the death penalty at the federal level.

Saipov had pleaded not guilty to 28 counts, including eight counts of murder and 18 counts of attempted murder, as well as providing support to a terrorist organization.

Prosecutors said Saipov, who came to the U.S. from Uzbekistan on a work visa in 2010, used a rented Home Depot truck to mow down people on the bike and pedestrian path on Oct. 31, 2017, including the eight people who died and 12 people who were injured.

The U.S. government rested its case against him on Monday, following two weeks of testimony that included recollections from victims who survived the attack.
