Three weeks after a man died in a Manhattan elevator, two more people got stuck on an elevator in the same complex.

Two people got stuck Thursday inside an elevator at the same Broome Street complex.

A woman in the elevator was able to call the Fire Department for help on her cellphone.

Eight complaints have been filed about defective elevators in the complex this month.

"The elevator tried to close its doors, but it didn't do it all the way. It was like halfway. And the elevator, you could clearly hear that it was jammed, and it was kind of making an effort to open back up, but it wouldn't do anything at all. So we were pressing the lower floors to see if it would go down lower, but it wasn't working," said Senaida Bonifacio, who got stuck in the elevator. "And then we tried pressing the call elevator button, but that wasn't working either. All it was doing was ringing, but we got no operator on the other line."

Stephen Hewett-Brown, 25 was killed while attempting to escape the stuck elevator on New Year's Eve.

Witnesses say he was trapped and crushed between the shaft and door after prying the doors open and climbing out.

The Buildings Department is still investigating the incident.
