Two men were arrested in connection with a Friday afternoon shooting in the Bronx that resulted in one death and three injuries, the NYPD said.

Salvatore Rivera, 51, of the Bronx was arrested and charged Friday evening with murder, manslaughter, assault and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

Jose Parilla, 32, of Manhattan was arrested and charged Saturday evening with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, according to police.

Jeremiah Smith, 24, of the Bronx died after he was shot in the chest at the corner of East Tremont and Hughes avenues in the Tremont neighborhood of the Bronx around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, police and the FDNY said.

Smith was pronounced dead at St. Barnabas Hospital shortly after the shooting, police said.

A second male victim was also shot in the chest, a 36-year-old man was shot in the ankle and a 58-year-old man was shot in the buttocks, according to police.

The second victim shot in the chest was listed in critical condition, while the other two victims were in stable condition, the NYPD said.

When Mayor Eric Adams was asked at an unrelated event Saturday morning about what the NYPD is doing to deal with the multiple high profile shootings that occurred this week, he said the city is “zeroing in on it.”

“When you have these high-profile incidents, it gives the appearance that we are not winning, but we are,” he said.

Adams said the city has seen a double-digit decrease in shootings and homicides.

Bronx City Council members Oswald Feliz and Rafael Salamanca sent a joint statement expressing their frustration at the Bronx shooting.

“Our community desperately needs resources and opportunities; and also deserves a system that sends a clear message: that carrying unlawful guns is unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” the statement said.
