Two teen boys were shot, one fatally, in Harlem on Tuesday afternoon, according to the NYPD.

The incident happened on East 128th Street, near Park Avenue, just after the boys exited a deli around 4:30 p.m., NYPD Chief of Patrol Jeffrey Maddrey said at a press conference. He added that one of the boys was riding a push scooter.

"As they're walking towards the corner of Park Avenue, a male emerges on the corner and fires a volley of gunshots at the two young men," Maddrey said.

As the pair fled into the street, the gunman shot the 14-year-old in the head, leaving him lying in between two cars, according to Maddrey.

The 15-year-old, wounded with a gunshot in his left leg, fled down the street and was assisted by a Good Samaritan, police said.

Once police arrived, they began administering aid to the 15-year-old and closing off the street, according to Maddrey. It was only then they discovered the other teen lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his head, he said.

Both teens were rushed to nearby hospitals. While the 15-year-old was said to be in stable condition early Monday morning, the 14-year-old was later pronounced dead.

Authorities identified the teen as Justin Streeter, of Plainfield, New Jersey. It remains unclear why he was in New York City on Tuesday.

Maddrey pleaded with New Yorkers to report anything they know about the shooting to 1-800-577-TIPS.

"We need your help. Our children, our families, members of this community cannot go through this gun violence," Maddrey said. "They shouldn't have to. No one should have to."

It was unclear if the boys knew the shooter, but "it does appear they are the target," Maddrey said. Police did not yet have a description of the shooter.
