Hundreds of Brooklyn Technical High School alumni, teachers and students gathered to remember long time staff member Paul Hoftyzer Thursday. He died suddenly at an alumni event earlier this month.

Hoftyzer, better known as Hofty wore a number of hats during his 22 years at the school -- including chemistry teacher, school programmer, handball coach and eventually Health and Safety Assistant Principal.

Those who knew him say he had a sharp memory, a knack for mischief and a thirst to squeeze every bit of joy and love he could from life.

"More than any other trait, Paul embodied love. Paul loved his friends. He loved his job. He loved his students and he loved life," said Brian LaGuardia.

A GoFundMe campaign to support Hoftyzer's family has raised more than $60,000.
