To mark Scotland Week, an exhibit in SoHo is featuring portraits of well-known Scottish natives all painted by contemporary artist Gerard Burns.

"Brush with Inspiration" at Glasgow Caledonian Unviersity captures the faces of actors Billy Connolly, Alan Cumming, Elaine Smith, Laura Fraser and Ewan McGregor.

The exhibition builds on the success of Burns' 14 for 14 exhibition, which was launched during the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow last year.

"Ewan McGregor bought a painting from me, maybe 12 years ago, and fortunately Ewan and I became friends, and he's a pal, as I supposed we say in the Scottish accent.  What I've tried to do in this painting is to paint the man," Burns said.

"We work very closely with the Scottish government, to showcase and highlight all of the best of Scotland.  And that is art and culture, finance, education of course, and that's just what Gerard did, in his works," said Glasgow Caledonian University of New York Vice President Cara Smyth.

Scotland Week is an annual program of business, civic and tourism engagements aimed at promoting Scotland.

To cap off the week, a parade will be held along Sixth Avenue Saturday.
