Our recently launched segment called Unscrambled takes a look at some Time Warner Cable services and features that subscribers may not know about. Today, our Jill Urban takes a look at the new TWC TV App.
Thanks to DVR and On Demand we can watch our favorite shows whenever we want. But now thanks to a the new TWC TV app, we can also watch TV wherever we want.
"TWC TV is an application for mobile phones, tablets and media streaming devices that lets customers watch TV on any device virtually anywhere. No longer do you have to be at home in front of a cable box to enjoy hundreds of channels of live TV or on demand," explains Greg Calvert, Director of Product Management at Time Warner Cable.
With the TWC TV app you can have your TV experience on the go. After you download the app and log in using your TWC ID, you can stream live shows, scroll through an interactive guide, choose from over 16,000 video on demand titles or manage your DVR and settings remotely.
"One of the most popular features is the ability to program your DVR when you are away from home. So if you forget to set recording or are running late, it’s as easy at tapping a few buttons on your iphone or android device, searching for the show, clicking record and when you get home it will be there for you," notes Calvert.
Now, while you can set your DVR, you can’t watch the recordings on the app, but you can access live streams and Video on Demand.
"At home using the TWC app you can have access ot basically your entire channel lineup, but when you are way from you you will have access to a subset of those channels. If there is something you want to watch that we don’t have, our network partners have their own apps which you can sign into as a Time Warner Cable customer," says Calvert.
For example, apps like HBO Go or ESPN, those channels have their own apps that you can log into separately using your TWC ID when you are away from home.
And if you are one who always loses the remote, no problem. The app can be used as a remote for your TV. Simply search for the show and click a button to watch on the big screen.
Lastly, if you have a streaming player, like Roku, or a Samsung Smart TV, you may not even need more than one cable box anymore. You can access your cable service through the app and you can save money on that extra box.
