New York officials are pushing for a major transformation of the Penn Station area to turn the space into a destination for commuting, traveling, working and shopping.

The transformation would come with:

  • $500 million to widen sidewalks and public plazas

  • $3.2 billion for over a dozen new entrances for transit stops

  • $750 million to cover half of the transit improvements that would make Penn Station easier for commuters to navigate, with 18 new entrances to the terminal and nearby subway stations

  • $875 million towards the $7 billion renovation of Penn Station to make it brighter, less cramped and easier to walk through

  • $1.6 billion dollars to expand Penn Station towards the proposed $13 billion expansion, with new tracks and platforms

If the expansion is approved by the federal government, it would require business and residents to move out.
