The first shooting happened just before 10 a.m. near 68th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.

Police say a 17-year-old boy was shot multiple times during a dispute with a group of men. He was taken to the hospital in stable condition. Officers arrested the 19-year-old suspect in a yellow taxi a block away. Police say that suspect, who they later identified as Cheick Coulibaly, has three prior arrests and was out on bail for an armed robbery in 2021.

Coulibaly has been charged with attempted murder, assault, criminal use of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm, according to police.

The second shooting happened just before 1 p.m. near East 129th Street and Madison Avenue.

The NYPD says four students walked out of Renaissance High School and got into a fight with three males. Shots rang out and a 27-year-old man was hit in the leg. Police believe he was an unintended target. A 16 year old who cops say was the intended target was also shot in the leg.

“Those shooters fled down 127th Street wearing dark clothes. This incident here is gang motivated,” Chell said.

The third shooting took place just before 3 p.m. near 104th Street and Lexington Avenue but no injuries were reported.

Police say that because of the nature of these shootings they are proceeding as if they are connected.

“Proximity, geography, around schools and age of our victims,” Chell said.

The NYPD says the heavier police presence will continue throughout the night and students heading in and out of school Wednesday will see more security as well.
