Ten pit bulls, including four puppies, were removed from a New Brighton home Tuesday afternoon after what neighbors described as a terrifying scene.

Several people were attacked on the street after dogs bolted out of the Staten Island home’s window.

“I got scared because you know, we do have a lot of small kids around here,” said Coralee Chandler, who’s lived in the neighborhood for three years.

“You can’t stop 'em. I wasn’t going to come out here and stop 'em. I stayed on the other side of my fence,” she added.

  • At least three people were attacked on the street after dogs bolted out of a home’s window on the corner of Prospect and York Avenue

  • A man and a woman were taken into custody for questioning, according to police

“Two people came down, one with a leaf blower and one with a board trying to scare 'em off,” said Sarah Horster, who witnessed the attacks.

Police said three people who were attacked were taken to a nearby hospital. A 2-year-old girl was bitten on the side and on her left arm, and a 13-year-old girl and a 19-year-old woman were both bitten on the leg.

Chandler, who lives across the street, saw several of the attacks, including an attack on a young teen who refused treatment.

“A kid across the street was coming home from somewhere. He didn’t see them and all of a sudden, he got across the street and he tripped and fell,” she recounted.

Chandler and her daughter said after he was attacked, they sheltered him.

“We had him come in behind the gate, and that’s when she called 911,” said Horster, speaking of her mother, Coralee.

According to police, about 10 minutes after 911 calls were made, someone who lives in that home was able to get all the dogs back inside. Two individuals — a man and a woman — were taken into custody for questioning.

Neither was charged with a crime as of Tuesday night.

“Diesel, Baby, Cookie, Princess, Kathlea and Nova,” said Princess Wilson, naming the dogs that lived in the home.

Wilson said the six adult dogs lived in the home with her adult daughter. She describes them all as family dogs.

“Sad that whoever got bit by these dogs that’s a sad thing. I wouldn’t want nobody getting bit by a dog but accidents happen,” said Wilson.

She believes the dogs were trying to protect their pups who got out.

“They were scared. They didn’t know who these people [were] that were coming towards them,” Wilson said.

Neighbors and witnesses NY1 spoke with said although the dogs are usually well behaved, this is concerning.

“Personally I don’t have a problem with pit bulls, but it’s the people that take care of them,” Horster said.
