Gov. Andrew Cuomo has a speaking slot on Monday at the Democratic National Convention, while fellow New Yorkers Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer are scheduled to speak on Tuesday.

The convention this year will be a largely virtual event after much of the planned festivities in Milwaukee have been largely scaled back amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Cuomo spoke at the DNC in 2016 in Philadelphia in a speech that was largely a tribute to his late father Gov. Mario Cuomo who had died in 2015.

Cuomo's national profile has increased over the last six months during the pandemic and his televised coronavirus briefings became middle-of-the-day viewing.

The governor is now in the middle of his third term.

Ocasio-Cortez, too, has been a national star for the progressive left after her upset primary victory in 2018 against Rep. Joe Crowley. And Schumer is in line to become majority leader of the U.S. Senate if Republicans lose their narrow majority in that chamber.
