A round of storms moving through the northeast is causing delays at airports in the New York City area.

Ground stops were issued on flights to LaGuardia Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport Friday morning, but were lifted as of early afternoon.

There are currently delays averaging more than two hours at John F. Kennedy International Airport, approximately two hours at Newark Airport and more than an hour at LaGuardia Airport.

The ground stops Friday morning were a result of strong storms in the northeast region that caused tornado warnings to be issued in Pennsylvania.

With the worst of the rain having passed, conditions are expected to be mainly dry through at least 7 p.m., according to NY1 chief meteorologist John Davitt.

Another round of smoky conditions was initially expected Saturday due to wildfires in Canada, but the state Department of Environmental Conservation is now forecasting healthy air for the New York City area.
