Bhairavi Desai, the executive director of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, joined Errol Louis on "Inside City Hall" Thursday to explain her union's calls for congestion pricing exemptions for yellow cab drivers.

"There has to be a different way of doing this where the burden is not on the drivers and where, in fact, we can really reduce congestion, have better air quality, without sacrficing jobs and especially sacrificing dirvers," Desai said. "How many years are going to be doing this dance where we take one step forward and then it's ten steps back."

"Why is this workforce seen as expendable," Desai added, noting over 90% of drivers are immigrants.

Desai's remaks came a day after taxi drivers raillied outside Gov. Kathy Hochul's Manhattan office and on the day the MTA held a public hearing on their congestion pricing plan.

She also spoke on the status of ongoing negotiations with the city and debt companies over drivers' medallion debts.
