Police on Saturday released two photos of a person suspected of shooting a 3-year-old girl outside a Brooklyn day care on Friday.

The NYPD also put out a photo of a BMW they believe the shooter fled in with a second individual. The photos show the gunman wearing a black face mask and a sweatshirt with the word "Waves" on the back.

The girl is in stable condition after she was shot in the shoulder while leaving the day care center around 6 p.m. Friday, police said.

Authorities say the shooting took place near Thomas Boyland Street and Riverdale Avenue.

A 28-year-old placing a 2-year-old child in the rear of a car appeared to be the target of the shooting, police said Saturday. Instead, the 3-year-old was shot as she was walking on the sidewalk with her father, police said.

Upon arriving at the scene, police rendered first aid to the child, placed her in their police car and rushed her to Brookdale Hospital where she was treated and stabilized, NYPD Police Chief Kenneth Corey said at a news conference in Brooklyn Friday night.

According to Corey, this is the third child to be the victim of gun violence this year.

Authorities say they are looking for the gunman and are urging anyone with information on the case to contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-8477, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit nypdcrimestoppers.com
