Authorities say the shots were fired just after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Lexington Avenue and 125th Street in East Harlem.

The M101 city bus was carrying around 30 people at the time.

Police say two people were shooting at each other on the street on opposite sides of the bus.

One bullet hit the bus, but no one was struck.

The driver of the bus was taken to the hospital for trauma.

The head of the union tells NY1 some bus operators are asking for bulletproof vests.
