NEW YORK — A retired New York City Police Department officer has been arrested and charged for her connection to the attack on the U.S. Capitol earlier this year.

Federal prosecutors say Sara Carpenter surrendered to the FBI Tuesday morning.

The day after the riot, the FBI received an anonymous tip that Carpenter had called a relative and said she was inside the Capitol building.

She went in voluntarily for an interview back in January and shared video she had taken from inside the building with an agent.

Earlier this month, a court ordered search of Carpenter's Richmond Hill home uncovered a green jacket, black boots and grey backpack.

Prosecutors say they are similar to the ones seen on a woman photographed at the Capitol.

Carpenter is expected in court Tuesday afternoon.

She faces several misdemeanor charges, including violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.
