The NYPD released new data Wednesday showing a 166 percent increase in shootings across New York City in August compared to last year during the same time period.

The number of people murdered citywide increased 47 percent last month also, NYPD data reveals.

In addition, the number of burglaries increased 22 percent, and the number of robberies increased 4 percent.

Overall, though, crime was up only slightly by 0.7 percent.

The NYPD also said that murders are up 34 percent for the first eight months of 2020, compared to the same time period last year.

For the month of August, rape decreased by 22 percent, but police say it continues to be underreported.
