An Astoria restaurant has been temporarily banned from participation in the city’s Open Restaurants program following several nights of raucous behavior and complaints from neighbors about a lack of social distancing.

Activity outside of Brik Astoria, near the intersection of Steinway Street and Broadway in Astoria, has been the focus of several viral videos showing partygoers flooding into the streets, many without masks.

According to the Mayor’s Office, Brik Astoria will be suspended from the program for a week and must submit a plan on how they will enforce social distancing guidelines before they will be allowed back in the program.

Brik Astoria was notified of the suspension after 11 p.m. on Saturday, which is supposed to be closing time for establishments participating in the Open Restaurants initiative on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Residents told NY1 earlier this week that parties at Brik Astoria, and several other establishments in the area, continued until 4 a.m. with cars playing loud music and others setting off fireworks in the street.

Police say they will be monitoring the area of Queens Saturday night after officers were called to disperse large groups of people who weren't social distancing last night.

Shortly after midnight, around 37th Street and 28th Avenue in Astoria, officers responded to large crowds of people gathered outside of bars and restaurants and ordered them to disperse.

No arrests were made, but 20 parking summonses were issued for double parking and bus stop violations.

The New York State Liquor Authority responded to NY1's request for comment on the disintegration of social distancing protocols set in place, saying that they are aware of the situation.

Earlier this week, Governor Cuomo imposed a "three strikes and you're out" policy for repeat offenders who don't enforce social distancing or masks.

Earlier Saturday afternoon, Mayor de Blasio admonished the Queens residents who were partying in the streets.

This is unacceptable," de Blasio began in a tweet. "New Yorkers have made too many sacrifices to fight COVID-19. We can’t let up now. We’ll be out in Astoria and across the city tonight to make sure restaurants are doing their part to keep their diners and their workers safe.
