In Manhattan one group of business owners and workers are demanding government acts to provide assistance, as they grapple with the impacts of coronavirus.

Members of the Chinese Staff & Workers Association called on the city and state to establish a fund for employees who can't work, because they have been diagnosed with the virus. They also want lawmakers to help workers who were laid off because of coronavirus-induced financial strains. Workers also demanded better access to testing, and medical facilities that can be used for quarantine purposes.

John Chen, who works at Chinese restaurant Jing Fong says "as a worker, we really (sic) concerned because we don't have money to support our life. Also safety issues, we really worry about the virus."

NY1 reached out to City Hall and the governor's office for a response.

Overnight the House approved a bill that guarantees two weeks of paid leave for those who are sickened by coronavirus, among other measures. It now awaits a Senate vote.
