Mud, mud, and more mud.

  • An estimated 60,000 square feet of turf has been damaged
  • The executive director told Spectrum News the damage is estimated to be over $20,000
  •  Olmsted Parks believes cleanup will take about a month

In 39 years of the J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge at Delaware Park, Stephanie Crockett, executive director of Olmsted Parks Conservancy, says this aftermath is the worst she's ever seen it.

An estimated 60,000 square feet of turf has been damaged.

Crockett says the conservancy does not blame J.P Morgan, but the wet spring Buffalo's had; noting that it rained before and after the event Thursday.

Plus, over 14,000 runners and event equipment doesn’t help.

The executive director told Spectrum News the damage is estimated to be over $20,000. She says it’s frustrating, but this is a reason why they have event insurance.

“The corporate challenge does give us money for overtime to handle all the cleaning, but we didn't quite anticipate the amount of damage. So we are going to have to find a way to pay for that. It's just going to looked bruised, but bruises heal — it just takes time," said Crockett.

Crockett adds, besides cleanup, they’re trying to get golfers and people to understand they are doing everything they can to get the area back to normal.

The golf course has two holes that are “unusable” until further notice. Cleanup takes usually a couple days, but this year, Olmsted Parks believes cleanup will take about a month.
