BRONX, N.Y. - Police say 22 people were taken into custody this week in connection to a large-scale drug bust in the Bronx at the McKinley Houses.

Prosecutors say the group was trafficking fentanyl and heroin from Mexico.

According to the 20 month investigation, one of the accused allegedly use his green taxi cab to transport drugs throughout the Bronx.

Investigators also say two of the defendants may have frequented drug treatment centers to find vulnerable people to buy heroin.

"Fortunately, 23 kilos - that's 50.6 pounds - of fentanyl destined for the Bronx and the Northeast were intercepted before it could wreak havoc in our communities," said Bronx District Attorney Darcel Clark.

If convicted, three of the defendants face life in prison.

Most of the accused are due back in court on June 20.
