A teenager was arrested Saturday night for allegedly beating an elderly man with a cane in Manhattan.

Saul Nunez, 19, was charged with assault and criminal possession of a weapon.

It happened around 5:55 p.m. Friday night on Broadway near 204th St. in Inwood.

The city police department said Nunez walked up to the elderly man, kicked his shopping cart, and then hit him in the head with a cane.

Police said they believe the attack was unprovoked.

The man ran off when a Good Samaritan jumped in to stop the assault.

The victim was taken to the hospital in serious condition and was treated for wounds to his ear and head.
