A Long Island City theater could take home several awards for its production of a musical favorite.

The Secret Theatre's production of A Chorus Line has received six nominations from the New York Innovative Theatre Awards. These awards are basically the Tonys for the Off-Off Broadway community. The production received the nominations in acting categories and for outstanding production of a musical, and choreography.

“Our show was the 40th anniversary show that happened in New York,” said Artistic Director Richard Mazda. “There was no other celebration of the 40th anniversary of this show, so it was us. Obviously this is a heavily supported show, very well loved. It's iconic.”

The winners will be announced on September 26th.  Awards organizers say recognizing Off-Off-Broadway shows helps generate a greater appreciation for theatre in the city.
