Richmond University Medical Center on Staten Island is getting a much-needed "IV" of cash.

The hospital has been awarded a FEMA  grant worth more than $14 million for Hurricane Sandy repairs.

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand celebrated the grant in a statement, saying in part:

"This $14 million hazard mitigation project will help provide much-needed upgrades at RUMC to ensure the hospital is better protected in the event of a future storm and can continue to operate and provide critical medical care to those in need during catastrophic events."

During Hurricane Sandy, RUMC was the only open and functional hospital on Staten Island.
